Step 4: Setup your webpage

Steps to setup your webpage:

Step 1: Setup your hosting account.

If you are using GoDaddy for your hosting, go to the GoDaddy Site.

Login to your hosting account. This is the same as your GoDaddy Login.

From here, you will see your account listed. Click on "Manage Account" (Which opens a new window).

Click on "Settings". Click on "Account Login". Enter a password. (This is the login you will use for step 2)

Click on the button "Your Domains".

Click on "Add Domains" and then add your domain. If you plan on having multiple websites, in the folder field, use your website name as the folder. So the folder will look like: "/YourDomainName". Once you do this, you will have to wait about an hour until your account will be usable in Step 2.

Step 2: Accessing your Account using FTP. This is the easiest way I found to be able to update often.

First you need to download an FTP program. My favorite is Filezilla. Download that here.

Install the file Transfer Program (Filezilla if you chose that).

Login to your website. In the host field, enter your website. (ie: YourDomainName.com) and your username and password will be from the password you used in the Settings from step 1.

Step 3: Setup your homepage.

You need to create an index.html file. Your homepage = index.html in your root directory. If you created your hosting account in its own folder, we will put the index file here. But first, lets create this file.

Here is a template index file: Download Index Template (Need to rename "index.html". Or copy the below code and paste it into a file titled "index.html":

Login to your website. In the host field, enter your website. (ie: YourDomainName.com) and your username and password will be from the password you used in the Settings from step 1.

Click and drag the index.html file you created into the folder on the right side of your FTP program. Now you can go to: http://www.YourDomainName.com. You may need to refresh your browser to get the most current website code.

Congratulations! You officially have your own website! Now its time to design the rest of the website!
